Starting now, weekly updates

Every week, I get e-mails telling me what's going on with the baby, how he/she is growing, etc. Brandon had a pretty good idea of posting those updates in here for all of you to read. So, every Monday when I get the e-mail, I'll be posting it here for your reading pleasure. These updates are from babycenter.

Week 14:

How your baby's growing:

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.

In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches —
about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

Last week, I had a doctors appt and was able to hear the babies heartbeat for the first time. Since I don't really feel pregnant at the moment, it was kind of exciting to hear that. To know that something is alive down there. Typing it out now sounds almost creepy though  :P
The doctor said the baby kept running (swimming?) away from her, and at one point even kicked the machine. So we've got a feisty one.

As for me, I'm slowly feeling better. Less nausea, which is nice, but frequent headaches. And tylenol just doesn't work like you would hope. Still don't sleep too well, but I am starting to get used to it, so it bothers me less.

On a side note, I didn't realize how much pregnancy effects certain things in your body. Like teeth. I had my teeth cleaned over the weekend and it was so painful!  It felt like she was stabbing me repeatedly. She said it's because my gums are super sensitive due to the pregnancy. I guess I just never thought about the little things it effected like that.

Hungry again. Off to make food! I think this time I want some cinnamon toast. Mmmm.

In two months...

My first ultrasound will be Wednesday, May 13th. So if all goes well, that's when we should find out the sex of the baby.
